Circl

Technology

Built for members and regulators

A six-layer protocol architecture designed from the ground up for non-custodial coordination, member governance, and regulatory transparency.

Layer 1

Identity & Trust

KYC verification, behavioural trust scoring, historical participation ledger, reputation weighting.

Layer 2

Circle Formation

Circle creation engine, dynamic type registry, contribution schedule logic, governance rule definition.

Layer 3

Liquidity Coordination

Rotational payout coordination, contribution pooling, settlement coordination, non-custodial multi-sig routing.

Layer 4

Governance & Capital Allocation

Voting system, community project funds, rule amendments, dispute resolution governance.

Layer 5

Intelligence Layer (AI)

Default risk prediction, contribution behaviour modelling, fraud detection (informational only).

Layer 6

Diaspora Connectivity

Cross-border participation, multi-currency settlement, time-zone-aware governance.

Architecture principles

Non-custodial by default

Members hold the keys to their multi-sig wallets. The platform never has access to private keys.

Encrypted at rest

Sensitive identity data and KYC documents encrypted with column-level encryption.

Event-driven

Every action publishes an event. Audit trail is append-only at the database layer.

Member-led execution

No platform logic initiates financial actions. Every transfer requires a passed proposal and member signatures.

Immutable audit

Every vote, decision, dispute, override permanently recorded with cryptographic ordering.

Regional aware

Multi-country, multi-currency, multi-timezone support built into core models — not bolted on.

Stack

Frontend

Next.js 14, React 18, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, TanStack Query

Backend

Fastify, Prisma, PostgreSQL on Railway

Custody

External multi-signature escrow (members hold keys)

Auth & security

JWT, bcrypt, HTTPS-only, column encryption for KYC
